Interpret This!

Word!

In this ongoing BLoG series entitled, Interpret This!, I’m going to be listing 3 quotes and then re-interpreting the meaning for each. Also, I encourage others to do the same, by picking one or more of the quotes and then commenting on how they interpret the meaning. Fun Fun Fun! No?

But keep in mind that history has shown us that the re-interpretation of someone else’s words can be dangerous!

Here goes:

1. “Think for yourself and question authority” – Timothy Leary

This quote is pretty self-explanatory! Forget about blindly accepting ANYTHING, stand up and question those that dictate laws for you to abide. Just because lawmakers and politicians bring about an ‘honest’ image from wearing suits and carrying briefcases  does not mean they are any less corrupt than your average Joe. QUESTION EVERYTHING!

2. “Belief is the death of intelligence. As soon as one believes a doctrine of any sort, or assumes certitude, one stops thinking about that aspect of existence.” – Robert Anton Wilson

When one adopts a dogmatic ideology they tend to put their ‘proverbial’ foot down and cease to question their existence and their own faith. The fact is that nothing can be ‘proven!’ Thousands of years have come and gone, yet there seems to be NO significant ‘proof’ of an ultimate creator or supreme being. It would be unintelligent or foolish to believe such as FACT. I believe it is fine to have faith, but to have blind faith is a subject of another post…

3. “If one were to take the bible seriously one would go mad. But to take the bible seriously, one must be already mad.” – Aleister Crowley

Anyone reading the Bible as if it were factual, would go insane. Due largely to the bizarre rationalizations that have to be made to make the storyline plausible. But, in order to read the Bible as if it were facual, one must already be insane, or atleast be lacking some serious common sense.

Now what say you?
