Anyone with an interest in cult films can recall the scene from Mel Brook’s 1987 film Spaceballs where President Skroob was seen intimately inhaling a can of “Perri-Air.”
That of course was fiction, but these days canned air is becoming an increasingly “popular” item in China! Who would have thought, right?
Chinese billionaire, Chen Guangbiao, is raking in the profits by selling different “flavored” cans of air in effort to raise awareness towards the out of control air pollution problem that is “blanketing” China. This started as a PR stunt back in September 2012, when 100,000 of these cans were manufactured and sold on the streets of China. Rumor has it that you can pick up one for about $.80 cents.
It’s a widely known fact that the skies of China are filled with smog and other nasty things, as it has some of the worst air pollution issues on the planet.
The air quality is so bad that you can actually see it from space!!!
The canned air PR stunt is a bit gimmicky, but at best it would make a unique souvenir, that much is certain.
If there are any Chinese readers out there, I would love to get my hands on a can of Chinese canned air, wink wink ;)
The idea of buying canned air is still a bit silly, but it makes me wonder what the next big thing will be? Canned cat’s breath?
