The Travelocity gnome was inspired by a really cool <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelling_gnome_prank" rel="nofollow">prank</a>. As a child I remember watching <em>The World of David The Gnome</em> on Nickelodeon, which was actually a Spanish cartoon brought to the U.S. in 1987, the foul year of my birth. -Ego After reading your comment I had to find out which one came first, the Amelie gnome or the Travelocity gnome.
